What to include on your website - and how to write it

When you are starting to put together the content for your website there are certain things that you want to make sure you include to help your business come across as the elevated brand that it is. Answering common questions, solving client problems and showcasing your products or service is just the start.

When we work together on building a new website I allow my basic packages 4 main pages, these usually consist of Home, Services, About and Contact. Then, if we have a bigger project we will include a shopping page or a blog - but let’s focus on the main 4 today.

Something I always like to bring my client’s attention back to is the grade school β€œW’s.”

Who are you? What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Where are you located? When can you deliver? Who does it help? How are you different?

( Okay I know that’s an H - but it fits )

You get the idea. Answer simple questions that allow your audience to get the best understanding of your product or services in a clear and concise matter.

Let’s use my business for example:

Who - Branding by Beth.
What - Marketing & Design.
Where - Located online and in-person in Calgary.
Why - Because now is the time to showcase your product or services online.
How - Encouraging Entrenepures to build their brands.
When - Packages range from two weeks - 3 months!

… Things like that.

There doesn’t have to be just one W, answer as many as you can think. Add them all into a sales paragraph than a sentence than a phrase.

PRO TIP: Once you have this refined, THIS should be your mission statement. (and, elevator pitch.)

Example: β€œHi, I'm Beth. Empowering entrepreneurs to build their brands and grow their digital platforms. Now more than ever your services need to be online. Let’s work together to build thoughtful branding, modern website design and social strategy that sticks. It's time to learn how to properly brand and market your small business with confidence. Book a call with me to bring your ideas to life.”

Action Item: Create separate documents that reflect each page on your website. Each document will hold all the written text that you would like to add to each web page. Think of all the W’s your customers will need to learn about and add them into the document. REVISE AND REFINE the text before adding it to your page.

Once you have a nice blurb for each page, you can also use the text for your SEO page description and header description on your website.

This might seem a little difficult at first, but once you get into the flow, it will be incredibly valuable for you to revisit what you have to offer your clients and why you are the best!
